| I became a photographer at age five, well at least in a five year old mind. I found a wooden box someone had thrown away and on careful inspection I decided it could become a camera. It was a plain wooden box with no writing and best part of all it had a swivel back. I drew some knobs and buttons and drew pictures of people on separate little pieces of paper and put them inside. For many days to come, I would spend hours going around the neighborhood asking if I could take a picture. I would put the box to my eye and say "click" open the back pull out one of the pictures I had drawn and voila, an instant portrait. The equipment has changed but I never stopped taking pictures. My studio is in Asheville North Carolina where I have had a commercial photography business for almost 20 years. I have been honored to be one of the principal photographers for the Biltmore Estate during this time. In addition to my commercial work, I am the volunteer Photographer for the YWCA and mentor for children at risk and organizer for Childrens' Photography Exhibits. |
